In Once Upon a Climb: Stories from Everest, visitors had the opportunity to step into the shoes of the few extraordinary men and women who have climbed to reach the Mt. Everest’s 29,045 foot summit, while experiencing some of the most extreme weather conditions on Earth. This exhibition included and went beyond the history of Everest’s exploration by describing how Everest helps modern-day scientists gauge climate change and its impact on our fragile planet.
Upon entering the exhibition, visitors were greeted with a multi-screen projection displaying gripping first-person narratives from the climbers, mapmakers, and scientists who know the peak best.
The exhibition also detailed the geography of the mountain, its native cultures that reside there, and the changing technologies used to map and study the highest point on Earth.
Finally, the exhibition showcased the 2019 National Geographic and Rolex Perpetual Planet Everest Expedition—the most comprehensive scientific expedition to the iconic mountain in history.
